XXXmas Vodka

The “XXX” in the title refers to the triple distilled vodka you should use for this recipe (moonshiners used to mark an “X” on their bottles for each time they ran their spirits through the still) and not to any illicit act…though this drink is strictly adults only.

It’s not too late to prepare this Christmassy vodka infusion in time for the holidays.  Feel free to jam with this recipe by varying the quantity of these ingredients or by substituting your favorites.  XXXmas Vodka is delicious in cocktails, or poured over ice (or ice cream).  You can also decant into small decorative bottles as Christmas gifts or party favors.

1/2 cup raisins, roughly chopped

1/2 cup dried figs, roughly chopped

Peel from 1 orange and 1 lemon


2 cloves

1 star anise 


2 cinnamon sticks 


½ cup dark sugar

1 tbsp honey

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1 litre (1.75 pints) vodka

1. Combine all the ingredients in a suitably large airtight container
2. Shake to mix ingredients and store in a cool dark place for about 1 week or more – shaking every few days.
3. Pass mixture through a cheesecloth or coffee filter and pour into a re-sealable bottle for use.

If the result is too sweet for your taste, dilute with more vodka.
